Oman is setting a new standard in sustainable tourism, blending its rich cultural heritage with forward-thinking environmental stewardship. Under Vision 2040, growth isn’t just about numbers, it’s about doing things responsibly.

Already, over 150 eco-lodges have opened across the country, offering authentic rural experiences while supporting local economies and preserving culture.

The Omran Group OM is leading the way: about ten of its hotels and resorts have earned World Travel & Tourism Council Hotel Sustainability Basics certification, cutting waste, saving water, reducing carbon emissions, and empowering local entrepreneurs.

Policy is part of the picture too. Oman’s Ministry of Heritage & Tourism prioritizes local content and cultural sustainability, making sure heritage, craftsmanship, and identity aren’t lost in the rush to develop.

And during Dhofar’s Khareef season, the government’s “Environmental Protectors” campaign safeguards natural beauty, even when visitors flood in.

Oman’s example shows that preserving culture and environment isn’t a barrier: it’s a powerful differentiator.

For anyone in the MICE, travel, or events industry, Oman offers not just breath-taking destinations, but lessons in how to grow thoughtfully.

Let’s celebrate and support these models, so that every event and visit contribute to longevity rather than depletion.
